Well,

Gingerbread finally made it’s way to my Motorola Milestone

Credits go to nadlabak

NOTE: I’m not responsible for your actions. Installing Custom ROMs can brick your phone so be sure you know what you are doing!

Go grab your update on the projects’s google code page

When you are coming from CM6 or any other froyo (2.2) mods the update process is simple:

Download the CM7 update.zip http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/downloads/detail?name=update-cm-7.0.0-RC0-0.07-11.02.03-Milestone-signed.zip

Download the gapps update for CM7 http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps

Boot to OpenRecovery http://code.google.com/p/androidiani-openrecovery/downloads/detail?name=OpenRecovery-3_3.zip

Make a full nandroid backup

Perform all three wipes (cache, davlik cache, data)

Apply CM7 update

Apply gapps update

Reboot and be happy

NOTE: when i installed CM7 there was no GoogleMail app. So i just installed “MarketEnabler” from the market and changed my phone temporary to US (T-Mobile) and installed the GoogleMail app from the market the normal way. Works like a charm

And now, have fun with CM7

I’m looking forward to the next updates

Current status: it boots, wifi and battery charging works. No gsm/umts yet. New sensor interface is in progress but not fully working yet.
The whole CM is moving to gingerbread, the repos are receiving tens of commits everyday by many great developers involved.
Be patient, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Hey everybody,

i am using the latest version of CM6 on my Motorola Milestone. The one based on the G.O.T. sbf with the 2.2 test kernel.

I was experiencing a significant battery drain. The battery wouldn’t hold a whole day…

So i did a little analysis.

First i found a little hidden feature of Android. Go to the phone app and type: *#*#4636#*#*. This will bringt up some stats. Most interesting are the battery usage stats.

Here is saw that “Being executed” (“Wird ausgeführt” in german) had 100%. That means that the Milestone didn’t go to deep sleep at all. So i tried to find out why. There is another stats screen titled “usage in partial sleep mode” or something like that (“Verwendung im Teilwachzustand” in german). There i saw “Facebook” with nearly 70% of all apps that were listed there.

So i went to the facebook app and deactivated the notifications (which didn’t work for me anyway). And the problem was fixed. The Milestone is now going into deep sleep normally and the battery drain is gone

Hope that helps many of you out there suffering under the battery drain!

Hey everyone,

there finally is a Cyanogen Mod available for the Motorola Milestone

It brings you Android 2.2 Froyo with all the nice features like apps2sd, market auto-update option, …

Of course it’s not a full custom rom since the Milestone Bootloader still isn’t cracked so there is no custom kernel running behind this CM6.

The installation is straight forward:

Download CM6 for Milestone from http://android.doshaska.net/cm6

Install OpenRecovery 1.37 (or newer) on your sd card (http://modmymobile.com/forums/563-motorola-milestone-roms/531599-open-recovery-v1-37-08-23-2010-a.html)

Boot into OR

Make a full nandroid backup of your current system

Fully wipe (all three wipe options) your system

Restore the CM6 nandroid Backup

Now you’re good to go. CM6 should be booting.

There already is a first bugfix update which is available here http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone

Simply download the zip and apply it via OR. This fixes Wifi and aGPS issues

I’m so happy with Android 2.2 finally available on my Milestone It runs very fast. Before i had 2.1-update1 overclocked @800Mhz. Now i’m not overclocking anything and it feels smoother and faster And i love apps2sd and market auto-update i love it.

Thanks Cyanogen!

NOTE: if you run into the same problem i had: reboot loop, you have to flash a full sbf first and then install CM6. I tried many things but i couldn’t fix the reboot loop without flash a full sbf first…

This was assured by different support employees at the motorola hotline.

Anyway it’s not certain that it will be 2.0.1, it could also be 2.1 but i personally think that 2.0.1 is more likely. Also it was only spoken of the german update, but i think it will be the european wide release…

let’s hope…

Hey everyone…

Since i (like everyone else with a Milestone) am waiting for 2.0.1 to be released i did some analysis of the wifi traffic of the Milestone when it checks for an update.

Here is what i found out:

1: A DNS query packet: DNS Standard query A motosb1fe.bitfone.com

2: The DNS response: DNS Standard query response CNAME mvfe1.bitfone.com A 216.90.91.100

3: After that there is some HTTP traffic going on which seems to encapsulate SYNCML data

POST /mvpdm/dm HTTP/1.1

Accept: application/vnd.syncml.dm+wbxml

Accept-Language: en

Accept-Charset: utf-8

User-Agent: Mototorla Android Sync DM Client

Cache-Control: private

Content-Type: application/vnd.syncml.dm+wbxml

x-syncml-hmac: algorithm=MD5,username=”xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx”,mac=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Connection: Close

Content-Length: 508

Host: motosb1fe.bitfone.com:80

…j.-//SYNCML//DTD SyncML 1.2//ENmlq.1.2..r.DM/1.2..e.4C9C..[.1..nW.http://motosb1fe.bitfone.com:80/mvpdm/dm..V.Motorola…gW.IMEI:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx..V.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx…Z..L.20000……kFK.1..O.1201…`K.2..TgW../DevInfo/Mod…O.Milestone…TgW../DevInfo/Man…O.motorola…TgW../DevInfo/Lang…O.de_DE…TgW../DevInfo/DmV…O.1.2…TgW../DevInfo/DevId…O.IMEI:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx….FK.3..O.xxxx..TgW../DevDetail/Ext/SystemUpdate…Z..G.xml..S.org.openmobilealliance.dm.firmwareupdate.userrequest…..O……..

And the response:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Date: Sat, 02 Jan 2010 13:12:48 GMT

Content-Length: 591

Content-Type: application/vnd.syncml.dm+wbxml

Connection: Close

…j.-//SYNCML//DTD SyncML 1.2//ENmlq.1.2..r.DM/1.2..e.4C9C..[.1..nW.IMEI:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx…gW.http://motosb1fe.bitfone.com:80/mvpdm/dm..V.Motorola…a.http://motosb1fe.bitfone.com:80/mvpdm/dm?sid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx..NZ..G.b64..S.syncml:auth-basic…..xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=…Z..L.xxxxx……kiK.1..\.1..L.0..J.SyncHdr..o.http://motosb1fe.bitfone.com:80/mvpdm/dm..h.IMEI:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx..IZ..G.b64..S.syncml:auth-MAC..xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx……O.401…iK.2..\.1..L.1..J.Alert..O.401…iK.3..\.1..L.2..J.Replace..O.401…iK.4..\.1..L.3..J.Alert..O.401……

So, it seems like the host is already active (anyways, ping is blocked). But unfortunately it sais that there is no update…

Looks like we just need to wait…. longer….

Motorola what are you doing? What’s taking so long? We don’t want a major upgrade with many cool new features. We just want the currently not working stuff to be fixed, like that auto-focus bug which is really really annoying. Fortunately it will only annoy us to the 6th of january since the 24,5 days are over then. And hopefully you will get 2.0.1 ready before the next 24,5 days are over!
